{"id":2679,"date":"2023-12-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-07T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/talent-web.applyflow.site\/prepare-to-resign\/"},"modified":"2023-12-07T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2023-12-07T00:00:00","slug":"prepare-to-resign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.talentweb.com.au\/prepare-to-resign\/","title":{"rendered":"HOW TO PREPARE TO RESIGN AND HOW TO DO IT GRACEFULLY"},"content":{"rendered":"<article>\n<p>If you are like most people who have forged a career based on loyalty, commitment and emotional engagement the idea of handing in your resignation to a leader that you genuinely like is one of life\u2019s more daunting experiences.\u00a0 Human beings don\u2019t like to disappoint people they respect or directly cause issues but unfortunately the management of your career will inevitably lead to resigning at least 2 or 3 times in your life.<\/p>\n<p>Unsurprisingly preparation is important; as is clear, concise communication and confidence in the decision you are making.<br \/>\n\u200b<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are a few tips that might help you prepare and execute your resignation:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>1. Get the meeting booked in your leader\u2019s diary (or utilize a regular catch up meeting if one is coming up). This means that you are committed to the action and can\u2019t \u201cchicken out\u201d at the last minute.<\/p>\n<p>2. Write a resignation letter that is very clear and unambiguous. The conversation you have in the meeting will add the emotional context to your resignation but writing down that \u201cThis is very hard for me\u201d or \u201cI would love to stay employed by XXXX\u201d is irrelevant to the person you are talking to.<\/p>\n<p>3. Even if you are considering a counteroffer (which is very rarely a positive move\u2026\u2026.I will write another blog on that one!!) make sure that you never leave with your dated resignation letter in your pocket. It NEEDS to remain with the person you have resigned to.<\/p>\n<p>4. The person you are resigning to has \u2013 at some stage \u2013 resigned themselves. Their initial reaction will be about how this affects them.\u00a0 How will they be viewed? Will it involve more work? Where are they going to find your replacement etc?\u00a0 They will be disappointed to lose you, sure, but they will be more gutted about what it means to them.<\/p>\n<p>5. Finally, do it with some class.
